Cost of Living

Although the cost of living in Qatar is relatively high, this is balanced out by the fact that it is a tax-free country with the cost of utilities being heavily subsidized by the government.

Qatar imports over 90% of its food products so it is easy to find a range of imported goods. Meat and dairy products are readily available and you can find a wide range of local fruit, vegetable, fish and freshly made flatbreads in the shops.

Qatar imports many worldwide brands. Most of the major branded garment stores, motor cars, and other retailers from all over the world are represented in Qatar, along with wide range of locally made luxury goods. All shopping centers and shops have air conditioning.

At the traditional Arabic Souks you can bargain for items including clothes, materials, spices, electronics, carpets, gold, traditional perfumes, and leatherwork.

Sport and Entertainment

There’s plenty of choice for recreation and entertainment, ranging from museums and art galleries, to multiplex cinemas showing the latest films. Qatar hosts a range of major sports events such as the Qatar Masters (for Golf), Qatar Total Open for tennis, Qatar Airways for Squash, Qatar’s International Car Rally, Qatar International Desert Marathon, Qatar International Athletics Championship, Qatar International Rally and Qatar International Sailing Regatta.

As far as nightlife is concerned, there are many different dining options and restaurants featuring world-renowned chefs, and bars and nightclubs can be found in the many of the International Hotels.
